Apple was quite adept at "updating" my functionality out of my phone: I couldn't use an older phone with apps that worked perfectly if the app was "updated" outside of my supported iOS version. Therefore, I was forced to update to the "new" $900 iPhone.
So I tried the Android route. The moto G4 got the latest Yogurt (or whatever it is) update which did nothing for me but kill my MMS functionality (APN settings were fine) and make it harder to turn off bluetooth. Then one day it just shut down after sending a text. Bricked it. Only 6 months old. Hence the reason to call technical support for warranty replacement. My wife has the same phone and every morning she says "NO!" to accepting the Yogurt update.
(I'm also not a fan of Google's spying. It's a little disconcerting to check CB on the Throne and have a little notification pop up: "We noticed you are using the Marriot Fairfield Inn and Suite Room #207 Toilet. Care to submit a review and tell others of your experience?"
Umm.....no.
So if the Motorola fails to work, I'm probably going with an LTE mil-spec flip phone (hopefully good for 5 years) and call it a day. I'm tired of keeping up with the phone market.
