They do it every year, seemingly, regardless of their plans to serve a mission. Sorry, I don't buy that part. I do buy the part about him committing to Stanford in the case that they do offer him - which I believe they will eventually. I struggle with the idea that they are holding back on offering him because it has something to do with his mission plans and don't consider him a part of their 2018 class. I don't claim to be close to the situation or have any inside info, but it seems pretty obvious that Stanford is going to be tough to beat to get him - as they usually are - if/when they offer him. Not sure what Stanford thinks they're gaining by waiting so long. Maybe others with more insight and understanding of Stanford's recruiting situation can enlighten me...
