Here's a comparison of MJ and LBJ in terms of Win Shares / Wins over Replacement
I added in the wins produced in the playoffs for each season so that playoff performance is incorporated into the comparison as well. Here is how they compare on a year by year basis from best season on down: James: 32.125 29.395 27.14 24.9 24.73 24.14 23.875 23.715 23.595 22.2 20.385 19.03 18.31 6.735 Jordan: 31.745 29.56 29.47 28.915 26.32 26.19 25.75 23.25 21.07 19.885 18.825 6.205 4.89 4.095 2.62 When comparing them side-by-side, LeBron's top 2 seasons were very comparable to Jordan's top 2 seasons. Jordan edges out LeBron over the next 4 best season, but LeBron has had a couple more seasons playing at the top of his game which could be explained both by entering the league at 18 as well as by Jordan taking a couple years off for baseball. Overall I would probably tend to agree with the statement that Jordan in his prime edges out LeBron in his prime (though it is close). However, LeBron's career accomplishments may exceed those of Jordan due to additional longevity.
