Now, that being said, 3P % in college isn't a strong predictor by itself of NBA % due to the relatively low volume of attempts. I know some stats guys combine 3P% with FT% to project NBA 3P%, as free throw % has a higher correlation. He's shown enough from 3P and shoots a good % at the FT line for teams to feel hes an average to good shooter.
Is he an elite shooter? No, I just had issue with your wording "can't shoot."
Watched the kid a lot this year. Hes got a smooth shot. And the improvement he showed from freshman to sophomore year is even more appealing for teams I imagine.
"One area that Mitchell made significant strides in as a sophomore was as a perimeter shooter, more than tripling the amount of 3-pointers he made as a sophomore (even accounting for minutes played) while seeing his percentage rise from 25 to 35%. His mechanics are sound, with great balance, footwork and rise on both his pull-up and spot-up jumper, and he seems to have the potential to continue to improve in this area, especially when asked to play a more compact offensive role, with better shooters and spacing around him."
