of a player's career (maybe total win shares over 7 seasons or something like that) would be a lot more telling of who was best in their prime. Looking at other metrics would be helpful as well, but if you want to keep it simple and only use 1 metric then Win Shares is probably as good as any. Just need to modify to account for those who were better vs those who simply played longer.
