Nothing wrong with ball control passes if that's who is open...
...go back to Detmer's years as a QB and he had RB's like Freddie Whittingham Jr, Peter Tuipulotu and Matt Bellini who were typically among his top pass catchers each year. When defenses focus on taking our downfield options away Ty ate them up by throwing to his backs out of the backfield who than ran for a lot of YAC because there was very little coverage.

One of the problems with a dual threat QB is that if all their downfield options are covered and there is a completely uncovered RB slipping out into the flat or on a wheel route, the QB isn't looking at them because they are already looking for running lanes or they're stuck in the mindset of why throw a pass to the RB when I can run it? Last year Taysom wasn't the same runner like he was during his sophomore and junior Seasons. He lacked that same explosiveness and would've been better served on a lot of stalled drives if he had dumped it off to Jamaal instead of trying to run it himself. Both Jamaal and El-Bakri had some nice gains in the passing game but we hardly ever threw to them last year.

Tanner isn't the runner that Taysom was and I think we'll see BYU utilize all their weapons on offense this year.
