3 billion to buy a network of fulfillment centers and kill a growing competitor,
plus their process, technology, operational understanding, and people? That's a drop in the bucket for Walmart, especially considering the potential. Walmart's previous online play was still based on brick and mortar retail. This is a completely separate division that allows Walmart the internal political freedom to innovate without burdening the long-standing internal retail-obsessed establishment. $3bn is nothing to them.
