At least in my experience, they like to buy nice big houses then fill them with average/cheap furnishings. They'll buy some fun toys for camping (truck, RV, 4 wheelers), but drive an absolute beater car into the ground for work. Go cheap on clothes, cheap on eating out, maybe vacation in expensive places but scrimp on expenses while there. I work with guys in this boat, making 6 figures. My sister and her (now ex) husband were foreclosed on in two houses because they got in over their heads. They just wanted to feel rich. They did the same thing with their vehicles, so we do see that a lot as well and that's not just a Mormon thing. I do believe there is definitely a culture thing of "keeping up" because church has such a high school social structure.
