He was working for the World Wildlife Fund and was in Nepal on an assignment. He and a group of about 24 other people boarded a helicopter to take them back to Kathmandu from the outlying village where they had been. Clouds came in during the flight and the pilot decided to turn around and go back. In making the turn to go back he banked right into the side of a mountain and all people on board were killed.
If you are ever at the National Zoo in Washington D.C., there is a monument to this group of people that sits not too far from the Panda enclosure.
