Yeah, if you had guessed C the professor still would have said C was wrong.
I think if you can trust the teacher that C is incorrect, then both a and b actually have a 50-50 chance of being right, unlike in the Monty Hall problem. The teacher randomly struck down one of the possibilities without knowing what the students had picked. That leaves 2 answers, neither more likely to be correct than the other.
