Totally agree. We're trying to limit ourselves, but I think it's difficult for
just about everyone. So far we've been successful at keeping possessions to more or less the bare minimum. Luckily, my wife is a minimalist. She is quick to give/throw away stuff if it hasn't been used in the span of a year.

Honestly, we feel like my family growing up had issues with this, and it's what contributes to my desire to "stock up." I can only think of a few uses for a wheelbarrow, but I want one. I want a tent even though we have no current plans for our family to go camping. Etc.

Another issue I have is the domino effect in purchasing. One purchase turns into five purchases pretty quickly. Case in point: we are redoing our patio in the back. It's great, and we plan to use it a lot. The extra space gives us the opportunity to do a fire pit and patio furniture. So now we'll have to buy those. Of course, along with the furniture and fire pit, we'll need all the accessories now for using, cleaning, and maintaining those things. I also bought a grill for when we have people over now that we plan to have the patio space to do so. I bought an extra propane tank and a cover. After grilling for a bit, we realized we want to try cooking locally-farmed meat. To hold it (they sell it in large quantities), we'll need a freezer. And on and on it goes...
