I had season tickets in the South End Zone most of the 1980's. The first smoking incident happened in the early 80's. We were enjoying the game when a guy close to me pulled out his cigarette, lit it up and was smoking away. I was in a state of shock! His buddy next to him saw what was going on and quickly put an end to it. I actually felt pretty sorry for the smoker. It was obvious he was simply unaware and wasn't intentionally being disrespectful. No one lectured him, which was a relief to me.
The 2nd smoking incident memory is a little fuzzier, but I'm pretty sure it happened. It was at the big Miami game. Miami really came into then Cougar Stadium acting like they owned the place. A couple of big Miami linemen were booed for prancing around the field pregame heckling BYU fans. I didn't see this, but I'm pretty sure a Miami assistant coach insisted on smoking on the field (pregame.) (Not clueless, but being a jerk about things) If anyone can confirm this I'd appreciate it.
One thing I really enjoy about LES is that you don't have to worry about breathing second hand smoke. (Those Cougartails can kill you though)
