It came out, after he had been hired by BYU, that many colleges had previously attempted to hire him but that he refused them all. He chose to coach high school in Texas because that is where he wanted to be, and where his family was. He finally took the BYU job because his girls are getting older and starting college themselves, so he can still be close as they attend BYU. He also loved the idea of being at BYU, but that was secondary to keeping a stable home for his family.

I feel safe in saying that he won't be poached. The only fear with Detmer might be if his girls, as they graduate, move back to Texas and he wants to be back there to be close to them.
