You're just young and inexperienced. Take it from a seasoned corporate recruiter
(me) that the lower half of BYU's student body is better prepared and more likely to succeed than the upper half of utah's student body, at least in the business schools (which is where I have extensive experience). Obviously there are individual exceptions, but I feel comfortable making this assessment, as a generality.

I've recruited at both business schools many times, and there were years in which we invited 6 of the 8 people we interviewed at BYU to fly back to interview at our corporate headquarters, and 0 or 1 of the 8 people we interviewed at utah the next day. I specifically remember debating whether to invite the best guy we interviewed at utah, because it was a bit embarrassing to not invite a single person for the next round of interviews, after screeing over 100 resumes and flying out there and doing interviews all day. The difference in the caliber of the students was very noticeable, both to me and my (non-LDS, non-Utahn) interview partners. We dropped utah after a few years, because they just couldn't produce the caliber of candidates we were getting from other universities, including BYU.
