I totally do this, but there's no good reason for it. I grew up in Fresno CA. If
I find out that someone is from there, I find myself immediately more interested in that person. I haven't been to Fresno for like 20 years. But still.
I wouldn't call it personal pride though, at least for me. It's just "interest." I'm just generally more interested in these people. Mormons. Fresnens. Utahns. Etc.
Like when I heard that they guy from Modern Family owns a bar in salt lake. Just made me way more interested in him.
