Neil Pau'u
I am really happy to hear that he is doing well and may very well be in the 2 deep at receiver. I would love for someone to interview him or talk to him about his high school football career. I heard somewhere that the head coach at Servite left after Neil's Sophomore year and that maybe the Pau'us (there was another cousin and potentially others?) did not see eye to eye with the new staff. IIRC the old staff ran a tight program. Even their warm ups were done with military precision. Anyway, I would love to know the back story because Neil is obviously a gifted athlete.

Here is my post about him from January of this year when they announced him joining the team--FWIW.

"So, about 6 years ago my good friend's son was playing QB for the JV team at Bishop Gorman here in Las Vegas. They had a big game against Servite late in September that was on National T.V.. (Anu Solomon lead BG to a win on a last second field goal). They also had the JV game the following day and I went to watch my friend's son. I also knew about this stud linebacker, Butch Pau'u, who was a BYU recruit. Turned out that Butch had a younger brother who was 6'4" and really athletic who played QB for Servite JV Team. The BG JV team was loaded with talent, many of whom are playing D-1 ball now. Anyway, this 6'4", lanky qb named Neil Pau'u, single handedly won the game for the Servite JV. He would drop back to pass, then just scramble for 20 or 30 or 80 yards. He looked like a high school version of Vince Young. BG tied the game with about 30 seconds left. IIRC, Neil scrambled about 50 yards down to the 1 yard line. Next play he threw a fade for the winning touchdown. (that's how I remember it anyway).

Everyone thought he would win the starting qb spot for Servite the next year. Unfortunately he wasn't a great QB outside of scrambling and he did not win the qb spot. They moved him to receiver IIRC, but he did not make much of an impact there. Servite ran a very run heavy offense. I'm not sure what else happened, but Bronco and co. pulled his scholarship offer before he finished high school.

He is now back at BYU and I for one am glad to see him being invited back. He was clearly a gifted athlete who can, if nothing else, make some plays on special teams. I think a smart coach might be able to turn him into a good speed rusher or tight end etc. Just know this, when I say he looked like a high school Vince Young on that day, I really am not exaggerating.

Here is further evidence of his athleticism. He was ALL CIF in basketball.
