How? You stand and put your hand over your heart while looking at the flag.

To avoid doing so is a sign of disrespect. And the justification usually is that America is an oppressive nation or that the flag represents oppression. It does not. It represents people who fought against oppression. I hate people attempting to turn a symbol of good into a symbol of evil.
