Has more to do with Utah
Being in the unique position of having to transition into a significantly more competitive conference. The Utah talent base on offense frankly wasn't even close to Pac-12 ready. Certainly not the depth to complete a 9 Game conference schedule.

Guys like Hays, Wynn and Wilson wouldn't have started for any other program in the conference.

So the strategy was to find a way to win while trying to minimize the impact of glaring weaknesses at the skilled positions.

What O coordinator would want that task?

What has changed of late is that Utah has made dramatic in-roads at recruiting O skill players. For the first time ever, KW feels like he has P5 caliber depth and talent at all position units.

That's where he feels more comfortable now employing a more aggressive offense.
