B2......After seeing Mangum in 2015, I could literally see his talent. His throws were rarely off target! Has his depression and stress zapped ALL of that skill? From your posts, I am wanting to know how bad things have gotten with him. If true, he needs some sports psych help. I think it is worth a try. Until he is more comfortable, why not let Beau Hoge or little Detmer run the system. At least the ball will be thrown more consistently and to the right read.

The feeling I get from the head coach and his favored cohorts at Byu is a lot of joking, child's play, and "looseness" in the structural management and organizational development needed in running a team. I hate to bring this up because Kalani is a great guy, but he is falling prey to the players coach syndrome.

In my limited experience, being an effective leader is not the same as being a buddy or friend; this will blur the lines of respect and authority that are crucial in effective leadership. I feel this may be happening within certain spots of the coaching network. The results are usually sub par performance and cronyism as inner team alliances begin to form from a sense of inconsistency and favoritism.

As Kalani feels the pressure from above from poor performances, he can do 2 things; Close ranks and begin to become an authoritarian surrounded by nervous luetinents, or create some equal distance between himself and everyone. The distance model is what he should do.

It is better to give all coaches equal access than a few close friends and players "family" access. This is hard to do for a head coach who has been a defensive, players coach. A distance coach is like a Nick Saban, Lavelle Edwards, and others. The older I get, the more sanity I see in this leadership style. It appears detached at first, but it offers the best results for consistency and performance.

Any thoughts are welcomed.
