He was a true hero
When I was younger, for a short time Greg was in my ward in Half Moon Bay and he was truly one of the most unique and special people I've ever known. Anyone who's ever interacted with him will remember him and how great he was. I followed his battle with cancer from afar and was surprised at how sad I was when he passed, even though I haven't interacted with him in decades. You really feel the loss of someone like him.

He used to help organize firesides in our area with Steve Young and other 49ers back in the days when Steve was playing (Greg and Steve were roommates at BYU). He was definitely a BYU guy. Strangely enough, around that same time Kalani Sitake was a missionary in my ward and I've wondered if they crossed paths, though I think this may have been a little after Greg and his family moved down to Santa Cruz.

Thanks for the story Mathew: I think he represents everything good in a church leader, and everything good in a person in general. If anyone is looking for a good hero to model their life after, spend some time learning more about Greg. And if you're lucky, you may already know somebody a lot like Greg.
