Sometimes a pitcher will throw what is called a "curve ball" - which is an apt
name, as the ball does curve. Therefore, sometimes a batter will think a ball is going to be out of the strike zone, but it curves into the strike zone. Therefore, thinking the ball will be out of the strike zone, the batter won't swing. But because of the "curve," it ends up as a strike.
