Do you know what the coaches are actually making? Or are you just perpetuating the conventional wisdom that it's dramatically below market?
You do know that there is a circle of donors who contribute to supplement what the University pays the coaches, don't you? I don't have current data but I do know that several years ago this virtually doubled what came from the school alone.
It seems to me that the more constraining issue is finding outstanding "worthy" LDS coaching candidates. Who would you get if you had money that matched the P5s? Whose out there that we're missing?
Many on this board are obsessed with the idea that the Church, BYU, BOT are negative and disinterested in supporting great athletics at BYU. The fact that they have consistently invested in facilities, support an overall athletics program that ranks #31 among universities, and have many football fans among the Q of the 12 (Uchtdorf appears to be the latest) seems totally off the radar.
