As a fan, I definitely cared about it too. Those who are now saying that the conference championships never mattered are the ones revising history.

It’s probably true that a national ranking mattered MORE to fans and many players. But the idea that nobody cared about conference championships is completely false.

You also probably have a point that it may not of been a huge deal to many fans. But to the players and coaches it was a huge deal.
