Being the President of BYU, or BYU-I does not make one a General Authority
President Worthen is an Area Seventy (and has been since a time preceding being named President of BYU). The previous president of BYU-I, Clark Gilbert, was not a General, or Area Authority.

The last few Presidents of BYU have served concurrently as General Authorities, as members of the quorums of the seventy. This includes Presidents Samuelson and Bateman. However, prior to that, Presidents Lee, Holland and Oaks were not serving as general authorities at the time they served as president of BYU.
