BYU is actually considered a P5 for scheduling by the SEC, ACC and B1G.
In other words, teams from P5 can schedule BYU as the obligatory non-conference P5 in a season. Interesting that the B12 or P12 don't count BYU as a P5.

We've said it before, and I'll say it again. Going to a G5 seriously affects strength of schedule. As a G5 we might occasionally play P5 teams but the status we have now as a P5 is far more valuable than we will ever have as a G5.

Sure, being in G5 might be funner and we might win more, but our potential is flattened. As a G5, we look towards the present and not the future. We lose credibility and we stop really improving. We turn our backs on what we could have done just because we are too selfish to have patience. Many have said it, and I add my voice to the argument. We cannot turn away from improvement, even if it destroys us. We cannot stop advancing like the romans and eventually lose everything we built. We have to strive to do more, and push on despite the circumstances.

We may have a limit as a program, but I can guarantee that going to G5 won't improve that.

As for the honor code, it built us. Yes it will limit what we can do and to a certain extent stop us from national relevance but we can continue getting talent. We can do better as a team and do better consistently.

Rise all loyal Cougars and hurl your challenge to the foe.
You will fight, day or night, rain or snow.
Loyal, strong, and true
Wear the white and blue.
While we sing, get set to spring.
Come on Cougars it's up to you. Oh!

Rise and shout, the Cougars are out
along the trail to fame and glory.
Rise and shout, our cheers will ring out
As you unfold your victr'y story.

On you go to vanquish the foe for Alma Mater's sons and daughters.
As we join in song, in praise of you, our faith is strong.
We'll raise our colors high in the blue
And cheer our Cougars of BYU.

Rise and shout, the Cougars are out
along the trail to fame and glory.
Rise and shout, our cheers will ring out
As you unfold your victr'y story.
