My problem with going back to G5 is that 10 years from now G5 might not even
exist, at least at the FBS level. The power and money is consolidating around a handful of P5 schools, and the rest of the P5 schools are riding those coattails. G5 won't get anything. As TV contracts are negotiated in the coming years (especially given the shift away from the traditional broadcasting model that is hurting ESPN and others so much), G5 conferences will get nothing but the crumbs left over.

If you aren't in the cool kids club, you won't get anything. I can see a bunch of the G5 schools dropping their program or at least de-emphasizing it. They certainly won't be able to pay for good coaches or facilities. BYU is at least in a position now where we can still control our own destiny somewhat - we aren't a G5 and we aren't a P5, so we can try and steer either direction. That is better than jumping on a burning G5 ship and going down in flames with it. We may go down in flames as an Indy, but at least we have a little more control.
