CougarBoard Division.... Ramblings of a middle aged Fan...
The long drawn out discussion of staying Independent or going back to G5 (as perhaps P5 ship sailed) has been nothing short of a reminder to me of our own CB division.

Both of these have their own merits and downsides in how they could help BYU moving forward. We have heard these arguments ad nauseam on here so I wont repeat what has already been said. What I find interesting is in the many years I have been on CB, I dont recall a topic to have created such a division on here as this one has. From those that are passive in their opinions, to those screaming from the rooftops, to those looking at it logically, to those looking at it financially and those looking at this emotionally. There are even those who are drawing back on fond memories of days gone by and desiring for BYU to be what it once was.

All we know is that we are Independent now, that is what the Higher ups want so that is what we will be for the foreseeable future. Do I agree with it, for now yes. But I hesitate to say that Indy will always be the best course for BYU, as I hesitate to say that going back to G5 would be as well. Ultimately P5 (as I believe all on here would agree) is the end goal. How we get there, I dont know. BYU has many walls to climb over or all together get rid of, if that is what they truly desire.

This is me right now on this topic:

It is hard as a fan to sit back and watch the program struggle as it has. But, I am here for CougarNation and will always be. I will support the Higher ups as I do believe that they want to achieve the best for BYU Athletics. I will support the coaches and players as I know they will get this figured out.

Although I am on the fence, reading all of these debates, it got me thinking if we had to back to G5 what would be a good option that BYU could realistically do. I agree that if we do go back to G5 that the AAC would be better than the MWC. Here is what I think would be a decent alternative if we never get a P5 invite and Indy does not end up working out.

NOTE: I really would not want to go back to the MWC until Hair Thompson is gone, just my 2 cents on that one.

Move Navy over to the East Division and add BYU and Boise making it two 7 team divisions for the conference.
You could then have BYU play the 6 teams in their Division each year, 2 from the East and then 4 P5's each year.
That would be a decent schedule each year. Do I love it, no. But if that is all we had I would take it. This would create more travel for the teams of the AAC including BYU (Olympic sports).

AAC - EAST

South Florida
UCF
East Carolina
Cincinnati
Temple
UConn
Navy

ACC - West

SMU
Houston
Memphis
Tulane
Tulsa
BYU
Boise

What I fear most is not going back to a G5, but the Higher Ups eventually deciding that BYU Football is more of strain to continue with and they disband altogether. I dont think that will ever happen, but I do fear it.

Anway, that is my opinion on the matter for any that care.

Keep your heads up CougarNation. I hope for the better, but will take what I can get to ensure that I can continue to see the COUGS playing on the field for years to come.

GO COUGS!!! Beat Boise
