the reason Lavell is legendary.

Lavell had no clue how to implement the passing game. he hired the right people and had a vision of what BYU could be with the limitations placed upon the program.

I remember Lavell being interviewed many many years ago on ESPn on the old sports show that interviewed sport celebrities for 30 minutes. Lavell, in a very humble way, admitted he had the blessing/ability to do 2 things that made him extremely successful: 1) hire the right assistants, 2) have a great knack for assessing talent and potential in players.

Gary Anderson was very good at USU because he has excellent assistants.

Not so much as OSU.

Kalani is sucking it up big time because he has horrible assistants. The limitations of $$ is probably the reason, but when you have nothing but mostly ex-BYU players and many who are unproven coaches come it, that is not a recipe for success. taysom and Jamaal masked that last year to a point, but it was evident.

I would guess the entire Offensive staff is gone next year and donors will step up to help pay $$ to assistants.

If there are absolutely no changes next year to the coaching staff, I guarantee we will be teetering in the 90's out of 130 in offensive production. Detmer should have been fired by now. A program with this much pride and success of offensive prowess should never be as bad as they are. Kalani and tom hopefully have learned great lessons.

And for those that think Anderson is a terrible coach. You are wrong. He has pretty dang good. I'd take him as a DC in a heartbeat.
