Now, or in the long term?
Now, independent status is fine. In the long term, when the playoff expands, we’ll want to be in a conference because there’s no way BYU sniffs a playoff spot without going undefeated. Easier to sneak in with 1-2 losses as a G5 conference champion with an automatic bid.
