Here's a question for those who served a mission
Were you there when a new president took over? If your new president was like the one that took over in my mission, when he arrived and saw all these strange mission-specific rules he said "What is this, a prison camp? Let's give the elders some freedom!"

So he relaxed some of the rules, and gave the missionaries a lot of rope. And they promptly hanged themselves with it, so about six months later the hammer came down and all those new freedoms went away.

Based on what the players are saying, Bronco obviously ran a tight ship. Discipline and work and fanatical effort were the rule; if you wanted a friend then you took it up with the assistants. Many players thrived in this system, but many chafed under his rules.

It appears that Kalani came in, like the new mission president, and figured a lot of what Bronco was doing was overkill and the players needed a break. The first season it didn't matter as much because the upperclassmen had been programmed in the Bronco Way and played his style and the product on the field was about the same as before.

But this season with the Kalani Culture in full effect it appears a lot of players, like the elders in my mission, have taken full advantage of the easy-going coaching staff and are in float mode. Unfortunately for them this season happened to be the one where Bronco's tough, disciplined approach was sorely needed and as a result they got embarrassed.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Kalani turn into a frothing-at-the-mouth disciplinarian next season, if not these next few weeks. He's got to restore some work ethic to this squad, and being nice to them isn't cutting it.
