I need to add, though, that it *shouldn't* be worth it
Taking a step back and looking at the economics of it...

Even with transmission losses, it's way, way cheaper to build huge solar farms on cheap land outside of civilization.

The reason it's worth it is a combination of government meddling (tax credit) and the way utilities charge by the kWh while ignoring overhead costs (line maintenance, etc).
