So many people (myself included) did law school and biglaw because it was a recognized credential and prestigious, thinking that they can find what they really want to do later with all that built up cache. Don't do this.
Because it's probably too late, I'll say this
- If you want to litigate, try to get AUSA job. Network w/ your judge and fellow clerks like crazy. Get to know the AUSAs who practice before your judges. It's fine to work a couple years as big law lit associate before going back to USAO, but go back. From there, the litigation world truly is your oyster.
- If you want to go in-house, go do transactional work at biglaw. Doing lit at biglaw will basically cut you out of almost all in house jobs.
