After watching The Greatest Showman I left the theater feeling like I had been far too distracted by other pursuits, many times worthless time wasting pursuits, instead of focusing on what was right in front of me.
Last night, I played a 45 minute game of the board game Clue with my kids and wife (without looking at my phone, laptop, or any other device). It was the first time in way too long that I didn't rush them to bed or get distracted by something else (TV, projects around the house, running errands, shopping, etc). We were done with dinner and I suggested we play a game. It was out of character for me and kind of caught my family off guard.
However, my oldest wasted no time going to the games and picking one we recently purchased. It turned what would be an ordinary evening into one that brought me closer to my kids and reminded me of what really matters. We made memories, they learned a little bit about logic and strategy, but most of all, the love and trust between us grew.
Needless to say, my goal going forward is to remember at every opportunity that time with them will always be more valuable than time spent at work, online, with a TV show, in a store shopping, or out working on a project.
I was reminded that time really does make the difference.
