It's more of a product of ward/neighborhood demographics

I live in a fairly affluent ward in Southern California, and other than a woman or two doing Lip Sense, our ward is virtually MLM free! When we lived in the Midwest (2 different wards), our wards were crawling with women pushing various MLM's. These wards also had a lot of grad students, and lower income families where the wives did not work.
