We've stayed there at least 6 times.
Great location to stay to visit all the surrounding areas. Great resort. Amazing pool. Great restaurants on site. The beach is pretty but it's not the best beach to swim. We usually only eat on site once every day or two because it's pricey. The breakfast buffet is insane with a beautiful setting. We always rent a car when there and go to Walmart or Mega in Playa del Carmen the first night to stock up on food, cereal, snacks and sandwich stuff.

We mostly eat breakfast in the room, lunch and dinner are usually outside the hotel because we are traveling around most days. We like adventurous stuff so we're gone from the hotel most days but usually plan 2 days to be lazy at the hotel and play in the pool and play beach volleyball. The kids will love the pool games they have during the day. Lots of fun competitions. Look at the resort calander. There's always stuff going on. If you're going to eat dinner at the hotel, I'd definitely do it at the Havana moon down by the beach and do it on a night they have entertainment. Great food and they usually have a band doing a lot of cover stuff and dancers performing as well. I can board mail you some info on the area and things we've done.

I served my mission there and love it for many reasons. If you want to do guided tours, Alma's LDS tours is a great local company. They've been doing guided tours for 3 generations. Most day trips include ruins, a great lunch at a local place and a swim in a cenote. Definitely visit some cenotes. If your family likes the water then cenotes are a blast. If you like parks and adventure. Xplor is best. It's pricey but includes food and a lot of adventure. That's enough for now. Haha. Board mail me if you want more.
