I"m ok with legalizing it as long as it is heavily taxed and has the same
advertising restrictions and protocols as tobacco.

I'm somewhat influenced by the fact that is is only a matter of time when the stuff will be legal everywhere. Heard a podcast that compared the social impact of alcohol and weed and due to the nature of the drugs Alcohol is a very destructive and economically taxing when we factor in domestic abuse cases when alcohol is involved, DUI, DWI (whatever), depression and life impact of being an alcoholic and it is extremely costly to a community just when measuring the dollars and not counting the personal impact people suffer such as my mother losing her mother at a young age due to a drunk driver.

Weed has the opposite effect on people and it is unlikely will have anywhere near the socioeconomic impact as alcohol does. Which sounds good but when we consider the terrible burden Alcohol has on the population it's like saying only losing 50% of your life savings is better than losing 75% of life savings.

What blew me away was the conclusion of the podcast was that the two gentleman felt the positive impact of alcohol outweighs the negative so they would rather their kids drink alcohol then smoke week. During the discussion there was no objective positive outcomes to alcohol given unlike the possible (likely plausible) outcomes for MJ ... talk about being brainwashed...
