Depends where you live. In southern California, yes. In Utah County, not so bad.
If you can avoid the crunch around point of the mountain at 5:00-5:30 or so, the freeway is usually smooth sailing, as long as there isn't an accident or something. I much prefer driving on the freeway when it's moving well.
