I've asked my secratary to confirm this with her daughter.
Her answer is:
"No to the yeah vs yes. However I don't use yeah when talking to authority only yes. The period thing sometimes is true. If it's 'OK.' that means they're mad. But [to mom] you use 'OK.' all the time and I know you're not mad. If Dean [her fiancee] uses it I know WW III is about to start."
