With a pointing breed when they scent the bird they freeze. They don’t move.
Ideally they’ll hold that position until the hunter can walk up and flush the birds in front of them.
When my dogs lock up and are holding still I know there are birds close by and I get ready to shoot.
The collar has a motion sensor in it. The Setter pup that is wearing it will range a couple hundred yards away from me and hunt for birds. Many times I’ll lose sight of him. If he goes on point and the collar senses he isn’t moving it lets out the scream. That way if he is out of sight it alerts me that he is on point and I go towards him.
