I was a scrub, basically setting up stages, lifting lights and speakers, running spotlights, and being someone for the roadies to boss around. The roadies were usually cool, especially after they got enough weed in their system to chill out. Had some fun moments. Was the sole person in the audience as the Dixie Chicks did their warm up performance the night before their performance (was their first night with a new sound system). Was convinced by the end that the middle one wanted me, but I was fresh off my mission and didn’t have the game to ask her out.
Most of the performers who came through were cool with the stage crew. Two stood out though. Tim McGraw was genuinely nice. Neil Diamond was the other. Neil Diamond was extremely gracious with the local crew. Super nice guy. A colleague of mine shuttled him and his girlfriend around to wherever they wanted to go, and he said he was really gracious and interactive and down to earth. Had a great disguise to go the movies incognito.
That job is also where I definitively confirmed that wrestling is fake.
