Friday's Five Musical Obscurities: Industrial Edition
1. Laibach: Bossanova
In recent years Laibach has become much more palatable for the average listener. Trading some of the old avant garde weirdness for Mina Špiler is a move I can't complain about.
2. Contagion: Fight!
Third show I ever went to. First was Nitzer Ebb. So if you know industrial music, you can probably guess that I prefer the EBM subgenre over what I think of as the "wall of static" that Al Jourgensen and Trent Reznor eventually brought to dominance in the 90s. I still prefer dancing to headbanging.
3. PTP: Rubber Glove Seduction
Speaking of Al Jourgensen, the Ministry frontman put together several Wax Trax dream teams over the years. An early one was PTP. This track's deadpan vocals come from Chris Connelly. It's an odd one, but it sticks with me.
4. Bigod 20: The Bog
Back to the EBM. An all-time favorite for me. Vocals by Front 242's Jean-Luc DeMeyer.
5. Einstürzende Neubauten: The Garden
A pioneering band that has also evolved. A nice slow down to end the set, but not necessarily cleanse the palate.
