Lots of research and writing. The judge may have him do
Drafts of the judge’s opinions or research or a combination. Political differences shouldn’t be a problem. It’s just like being given a bunch of writing assignments in law school where he’s told which side he should take on a given issue.
The judge may have even hired him to hear a more conservative perspective in his office. Some judges like to hear different perspectives.
