in 84 (I think...or 85) I hung around the locker room after the game hoping to high five some players. I was 11. Lavell comes out wearing his characteristic royal blue baseball cap. Gave me five and walked three steps or so past me, then turns around and says "Hey kid, want a hat?" and gave me the hat right off his head then proceeded to the team bus. I must have worn that hat everyday to middle school for most of that year. I wore it so much I eventually destroyed the hat. I think back sometimes and wish I'd kept the hat in good condition or at least asked LaVell to sign it, but then I think it wouldn't have meant as much to me any other way.
