Look at our QBs for next year (2019):
1) Beau Hodge, Sr. A career backup.
2) Joe Critchlow, Jr. A walk on with consistency questions.
3) Zach Wilson, So. Conover's main competition (assuming he doesn't serve a mission after his Freshman year). Wilson has shown some pretty flashes in spring, he may not even see the field this year depending on QB health.
So Conover will compete with a walkon and a pair of dual threat QBs. One is a career backup in his Sr year. The other will either be a RS FR or a So with limited experience. From the limited sample sizes, Conover could well be the best passer of the lot.
Don't mistake me. Hodge, Critchlow, and Wilson all have talent and could prove to be capable or even very good QBs. However, from a prospects point of view, that "glut" of QBs looks more like a mire of mediocrity that a talented prospect could potentially leap over.
