I used to work with a socially awkward dude, although not as bad as the one you described. He eventually got fired, and it was a huge relief to everyone because he just made so many people uncomfortable. Didn't seem to have any social aptitude whatsoever. He was decent at his job though, picked up programming quicker than anyone I've ever seen.
