because when he's here he learns what Dave Rose knows. If he goes somewhere...
...else first he likely makes a few stops at different schools as he grows his coaching chops and he picks up things from each coach he works for. He also builds a network of recruiting contacts at all of his stops along the way. Then when he's experienced and BYU calls him home he brings not the same existing philosophy and mindset that is already present at BYU but brings some diversity of experience and perspective that the current staff doesn't have including maybe a few things they lack and desperately need. Plus he brings new recruiting opportunities that the current coaching staff doesn't have either.

I run an inpatient pediatric ward and NICU at the hospital where I work. We also run a pediatric residency program in concert with the University of Washington medical school and it gives us a great opportunity to introduce new providers to our system of care (it's normally hard to recruit doctors to Alaska). As great as the residents are, I can't just fill all of my vacancies from this residency program because the bulk of what they know is what they learned from us and to keep our hospitalist group up to date, we need to frequently find and bring in pediatricians with diverse work experiences from other hospital systems to enrich what we have.

If Rose had a really veteran staff like he did once upon a time when coaches like John Wardenburg, Walter Roese, Dave Rice, etc were on staff then a hire like Lee would be great. He could be mentored by some great coaches and then possibly get a great opportunity to move on with a major conference program to add to his resume. Rose's staff now is very limited in experience and because all of their D-1 exp has been with Dave, very limited also in perspective.
