One morning when I was stationed with the Marines I was getting ready to leave for a training excercise for about 6 weeks.

I was getting after my two boys about something and my oldest kid kept chiming in with her two cents.

I looked at her and said "I'm the parent. I got this." She then asked "Well when do I get to be a parent?" I told her "I don't know. When you're like 35" and I go back to the boys.

Then she got really excited and said "or I could be in the Navy too! Then I could only be a parent sometimes!"

Heart crushed.
