Used to be the highlight of my summer. I remember staying in DT and Helaman Halls. Drinking as much chocolate milk as I could in a week. I remember they used to have the A-D leagues and every team would be named after the league it was in. Then they changed it so the different divisions were college conferences like the Pac 10 and Big 12 with Mountain West being the best and older conference (of course). I remember wanting so badly to make the all-star team at the end of the week so that I could play in the all-star game. I made it the last year that they had it (before they phased it out) and being so proud of myself. Seriously gave my basketball game such a confidence boost to know that I was an all-star of the BYU camp.
Seemed like year in and year out they cut stuff which made it less fun. Shortened the camp so it was more like 3 1/2 days rather than a full week. I remember the last couple years I could go it didn't seem like the same camp I grew up going to. Seemed more like a day camp you would do at your local high school. That kinda made me sad. Hope it's still fun but I'm guessing when my kids are old enough to go it will not be the same camp I grew up going to. Just can't get away with giving kids so much freedom nowadays for some reason. We would walk all across campus by ourselves. They gave us a schedule and we were expected to follow it on our own. As 8 and 9 year old kids. Seems like that sort of thing is kinda gone now. Not sure why. I have very fond memories of BYU basketball camp though and it's probably the biggest reason I am the big BYU fan I am now.
