direction of the program, Utah going to the PAC 12, tougher schedules, and the direction of CFB since realignment happened a few years ago.
BYU, as a private religious school with a very strict HC, just can’t compete in today’s CFB. Our traditional values were, for the most part, embraced by the nation 20-30 years ago. Now, not so much, even by non-LDS conservatives.
As they say, recruiting is the life-blood of a program, and we can’t recruit enough of today’s elite players to field a consistently good team. Of course we will get a few Taysoms and Jamaals but they are few and far between.
This is why I think Bronco left. He saw the trend of CFB and BYU’s mission and priorities weren’t compatible for sustained success.
I doubt we go 4-9 again for awhile but I also doubt we go 9-4 again for awhile. My negative outlook is based on the overall climate of the things I mentioned above.
