kindergarten we kept them together for ease of starting school
then we kept them separate for the rest of elementary so they could be their own person. they had their own friends (many of whom disn’t even know they were a twin, which made for funny interactions when they would see the other one out about town)

in middle school and now HS, with electives and all they end up having some classes together and some apart.

mrs. jag did a lot of research into twins and knows school systems and felt strongly this was the way to go and I think it definitely was the right choice for us.

we also never dressed them the same and they don’t have similar names. we never call them “the twins”. they are always their own person. they’ve still always had that super close relationship with each other and special language as little kids, but otherwise they are treated as singletons.
